When Darren Sammy played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL in 2013-14, he was referred to as Kalu. Not only him but Sri Lankan player Thisara Perera was also addressed in the same way. When Darren Sammy wanted to know the meaning of the word Kalu, he was told that the word black means strong wrestler.

Not knowing the meaning of the word, he did not bother much about it. But whenever his teammates and staff called him by this name, everyone laughed at this name. But he didn't think anything because he didn't know the exact meaning of the word. But now that he knows the exact meaning of this word and this meaning has made him very angry.

Darren Sammy has played all over the world. In many parts of the world, his favorite people have grown up playing. But now he dislikes many people. He will especially contact those who have racistised him and demand accountability from them. Racism is rampant around the world and has spread to cricket, so Darren Sammy has appealed to the ICC and all cricket boards to get rid of this racism

Chris Gayle has come out in support of Darren Sammy. Gayle said, “It’s never too late to fight for the right cause.” Both the cricketers have expressed their support to the 'Black Lives Matter' campaign which has erupted following the death of George Floyd -- an African-American -- in police custody in United States. Earlier, Gayle had also revealed that he too has been a victim of racism, and added that racism is something that has been bothering cricket as well.
