Stokes is now on top to hit sixes

Ben Stokes six hittin, Cricketix

Ben Stokes on the way to hit another one six. Stokes was in the same place with the Indian legend in the number of sixes in Tests. Stokes surpassed Tendulkar's 69 sixes in the first innings against the West Indies. The English all-rounder hit two sixes in the first innings and three more sixes in the second innings. And that's where Stokes has risen to a peak. He still has the most sixes in Tests among the cricketers who are still playing.

Stokes overtook New Zealand's Southee in the second six of the innings today. Stokes, who settled in England from New Zealand, also got fifty in this six after going down to open for the first time in his Test career.

The devastating batsman later hit another six to take his sixes to 74 in the Tests. Saudi Arabia has the second highest number of 62 sixes among current cricketers. The New Zealand pacer played 63 Tests and Stokes dismissed him for 65 matches. However, Stokes is at number 14 in the all-time list in Tests. Former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum tops the list with 106 sixes. Both are wicketkeeper-batsmen. Australia's Adam Gilchrist hit exactly 100 sixes.

Only one of the sixes above Stokes has not played a Test in the 21st century. The name, of course, is not surprising — Viv Richards. One of the most devastating batsmen of all time, he has hit 64 sixes in 121 Tests and is in eighth position. Listing the top 20, Richards' three contemporaries live there. Richards' World Cup-winning captain Clive Lloyd finished 16th with 60 sixes. Ian Botham, one of the best all-rounders of all time, and Gordon Greenidge, another former Caribbean Bangladesh coach, are joint 20th. Tamim Iqbal has the most number of sixes in Tests among the batsmen of Bangladesh. Bangladesh's opener is joint 60th with 35 sixes in 60 Tests.
